“Nobody’s picking’ any bluegrass!” This is a commonly overheard phrase at many music camps and workshops these days. The recent surge in the popularity of Old Time Music has left a lot of “grassers” looking for like minded folks to jam with. The answer to this problem has arrived in the form of a “bluegrass” camp being held for the first time this July in southern Ontario.

The Old School Bluegrass Camp is being held at a beautiful converted public school in Prince Edward County, Ontario, from July 5th to the 10th. There are limited spots available offering campers an incredible ratio of teachers to students, with no more than ten students on any given instrument.

The camp features all the classic bluegrass instruments: banjo, mandolin, fiddle, guitar and bass, as well as Dobro and clawhammer banjo to round out the idiom.

The camp fee includes basic camping, three delicious home-made meals a day (plus snacks), daily classes on your chosen instrument with a master musician/instructor, band labs where you’ll learn to play as a group, concerts by your instructors on the school’s stage, interactive workshops, private lesson, fun evening social activities, bon fire jams and all amenities. Love bluegrass but hate camping? There are many options for RV camping, inns, b&b’s and hotels close by, all listed on the website. The camp is the brainchild of Juno award winning musician Jenny Whiteley along with her good friend Alysa Hawkins who is the owner/operator/resident of the Old School and South in Milford Inn.
